About Doug Rhoades
I’m a native-born Californian. In 1962, my parents Dusty and Huberta moved to Lake County, for the clean air, small towns, and country lifestyles. My dad was a mechanic, and worked in Upper Lake until his retirement. We lived in Lucerne, then Upper Lake, finally moving to Nice where I grew up. I attended school in Upper Lake, graduating from high school in 1971.
In 1974, I joined the sheriff’s reserves, and was employed with the Sheriff’s Department in 1976. I worked as a jailer (before they became correctional officers), deputy sheriff, and sergeant. I worked in patrol, training, personnel, information technology, and headed up the dispatch, civil, and coroner’s divisions before returning to patrol. I worked under four sheriffs.
I started started law school in 1992, graduating in May 1996 Summa Cum Laude (the highest honor that can be awarded a graduate) with a Juris Doctorate degree. That December, I passed the Bar exam and began to practice law.
I opened my office at 200 N. Main Street in Lakeport on March 1, 1997, and have remained there since that time. My practice is focused on criminal law.
